Connecticut Men's Track and Field Outdistances Brown and UMass

For UConn, the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams both finished first with times of 41.10 and 3:18.69, respectively. Members of the 4x100m-relay team were Laban Marsh (Jr., Erie, PA), Joe Mendel (So., Wayne Hills, NJ), Ricky Gross (So., Nanuet, NY) and Chris Charles (Fr., Park Ridge, NJ). The 4x400m-relay team consisted of Ernest Holloway (Fr., New London, CT), Brian Moles (Fr., Lewisburg, PA), Shadi Jalil (Fr., Clinton, CT) and James Tremblay (Fr. Albany, NY).
In individual events, Corey Pusey (Jr., Vernon, CT) and Chris Charles (Fr., Park Ridge, NJ) both had a pair of first place showings. Pusey won the discus and the shot put with distances of 166' 2" and 52' 6 1/2", respectively, while Charles took both the 100m (10.90) and 200m (22.15).
Also performing strongly for the Huskies was the hammer throw group, which took each of the top five positions and was led by John Barth ( Fr., Wakefield, RI) who used a 181' 9" for first.
First place finishes for Connecticut also included: Paul Pisano (Javelin, 209' 6") Ken Goglas (Steeplechase, 9:30.30), Greg Santiago (400m HH, 57.16) and Joe Mendel (400m, 47.33)
One other notable performance was that of Brown's Brad Bowery who used a 16' 8 3/4" in the pole vault for first and tied the facility record, which is also held by Jamison Whiting of New Hampshire (5/13/00).
Next up for the Huskies is a trip to Philadelphia, PA, for the historic Penn Relays with the meet running April 26-28, and the Yale Invitational on April 29 in New Haven, CT. These meets will serve as Connecticut's final preparations before the championship portion of the season starts, which includes the New England Championship, May 10- 12, in Storrs, CT.
