Huskies Finish 12th at Winthrop/Waterford Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The University of Connecticut golf team closed play with a final-round score of 329 to place 12th at the Winthrop/Waterford Invitational in Rock Hill, SC. The Huskies finished with an overall score of 653 (+77) for the tournament combining todays score with an opening round of 324.

Senior John Humphreys (Niantic, CT) led the way for the Huskies tying for 19th overall with four others. Humphreys fired a second-round 78 to finish with a final score of 157 (+13). Junior Kevin OConnor strung together rounds of 81 and 85 to finish tied for 57th with a 166 (+22). Junior Sean Vigue (Lebanon, CT) and Geoff Reilent were one shot back as they matched each others performance both finishing tied for 61st shooting a 167 (+23). Vigue coupled rounds of 83 and 84, while Reilent carded an 85 and 82. Closing out the scoring for the Huskies was freshman Chris Jeffrey (Lincoln, RI) who turned in an 81 and 93 to tie for 78th with a 174 (+30).

The 2001 spring tour will continue March 11-13 as the Huskies travel to Greenville, NC for the East Carolina University Tournament.
