UConn Hockey Blasts Bentley, 11-1

STORRS, Conn. -- Kurt Kamienski (Pittsfield, MA) netted a hat trick plus three assists and Ron D'Angelo (Massapequa, NY) had a hat trick plus two assists to lead the University of Connecticut men's ice hockey team past Bentley College 11- 1 on Saturday evening in Storrs for their last regular season home game. The win is a new Division I record for the UConn hockey program netting 11 goals in one game. With the win, UConn improves to 12-18-4 overall, 12-11-3 in the MAAC, while Bentley ends the season with an overall record of 4-23-2, 3-21-2 in conference action.

D'Angelo opened the scoring 1:44 into the first period on assists from Matt Owens (Framingham, MA) and Kamienski. Michael Goldkind (Silver Spring, MD) recorded the next tally at the 3:09 on a centering pass from Ciro Longobardi (Wallingford, CT), with Kamienski also receiving an assist. Anthony Switek (Philadelphia, PA) gave the Huskies the 3-0 lead at the 7:22 mark on a power play tally with another assist from Kamienski and from Mike Anderson (Springfield, MA).

Kamienski began the second period scoring at the 5:34 mark on a pass from Longobardi and Goldkind. Owens responded three minutes later to raise the score to 5-0. Eric Goclowski (Hamden, CT) and D'Angelo were credited with the assists. D'Angelo's second goal came midway through the stanza with assist from his defensemen Scott Brown (Blaine, MN) and Anderson. Bentley's only tally of the game came on a deflected shot from Dave Gibson at the 11:49 mark. Eric Nelson (Big Lake, MN) nailed two shots within a minute of each other to end the period with the 8-1 Husky lead. Longobardi and Goldkind assisted on the first goal, while Anders Johnson (North Kingston, RI) received credit on the second tally.

The two hat tricks were earned in the third period. Kamienski scored at the 2:16 mark on an assist from Trent Landry (Somerset, WI). He netted his third goal with a 1:35 remaining on Longobardi's fourth assist of the night. Longobardi and Anderson helped D'Angelo net his hat trick with 29 seconds left.

UConn's Artie Imbriano (Stoneham, MA) received the win in net stopping nine Bentley shots on goal, while Bentley's Kevin Williams, Ray DeVincent and Bill Bridge combined for 23 saves. UConn outshot Bentley 34-10.

The No. 5 seed Connecticut will face the No. 4 seed Canisius College in a quarterfinal game of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Tournament on Saturday, March 10 in Buffalo, NY.
