UConn Hockey Falls to Quinnipiac, 4-2

STORRS, CT -- Chris Cerrella netted one goal and three assists to lead Quinnipiac University to a 4-2 victory over the University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey team in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday night at the UConn Ice Arena. The loss drops UConn to 11- 17-4 overall, 11-10-3 in the MAAC, while Quinnipiac improves to 18-10-4 overall, 15-7-2 in conference action.
The Braves’ Ryan Olson opened the scoring at the 13:37 mark of the first period on a power play tally. Jed Holtzman responded less than five minutes later on another power play goal to end the stanza.
UConn’s Ciro Longobardi (Wallingford, CT) brought the score within one at the 6:03 mark of the second period on an assist from Mike Boylan (Doylestown, PA).
Chris Cerrella netted Quinnipiac’s last power play goal at 6:04 of the third period. Anders Johnson (North Kingston, RI) responded for UConn 12 seconds later. Bret Bostock (Phoenix, AZ) and Charles Ridolf (West Warwick, RI) assisted on the tally. Matt Erhart sealed the victory for Quinnipiac at the 16:03 mark.
Jason Carey (Oakdale, MN) suffered the loss in net recording 23 saves, while Quinnipiac’s Justin Eddy also stopped 23 shots on goal. The Braves’ outshot UConn, 27-25. In the penalty filled game, Quinnipiac went 3-8 on the power play, while UConn went 0-6.
Connecticut will face-off against Holy Cross on Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hart Center in Worcester, MA.
