Huskies Battle to a 3-2 Win Over Quinnipiac

STORRS, CT (November 25) – Freshman Adam Rhein (Cottage Grove, MN) led the University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over MAAC rival Quinnipiac University on Sunday afternoon at the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs.
Quinnipiac jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period. Ryan Olson notched both of Quinnipiac’s goals at the 9:35 and 17:03 marks, respectively. UConn’s Ron D’Angelo (Massapequa, NY) responded 20-seconds later, after the last Quinnipiac goal, to cut the Huskies deficit to one. Matt Herhal (Pottstown, PA) and Rhein, scoring his first collegiate point, assisted on the goal.
DJ Miller (Mount Lebanon, PA) opened the second period scoring on an assist from Scott Brown (Blaine, MN) to tie the game at two apiece at the 11:41 mark. Rhein scored the game-winner with a 1:22 remaining in the second stanza to put UConn on top. Anders Johnson (North Kingston, RI) and Justin Postiglione (Philadelphia, PA) assisted on the goal.
Jason Carey (Oakdale, MN) earned his first victory of the season in net, stopping 38 shots on goal. Quinnipiac’s Jamie Holden recorded 10 saves. The Braves’ outshot Connecticut, 40-13.
Connecticut will host Canisius College on Friday, November 30 at 7:30 pm at the UConn Ice Arena.
