Huskies Fall to Northeastern 3-1

STORRS, CT (November 2) – The University of Connecticut women’s hockey team fell to No. 9 nationally-ranked Northeastern University, 3-1, in an ECAC Eastern match-up at the UConn Ice Arena on Friday evening. The loss dropped UConn to 2-2-1 overall, 1-1-0 in league play, while Northeastern improved to 5-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 in the ECAC.
Kimberly Berry (Haverhill, MA) put UConn on the board first with 1:10 left in the first period on a power play tally. Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) and Caitlin Salazar-Reid (London, Ontario) assisted on the goal.
Kim Greene evened the score 58-seconds into the second stanza, followed by the game-winning tally 1:16 later on a shot by Jess Judge. Northeastern added an insurance goal in the third period into UConn’s empty net on a breakaway shot from Brooke Whitney with 12-seconds left in regulation.
Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) recorded 17 saves in net for UConn, while Chandra Gunn earned the win stopping 19 shots. Connecticut and Northeastern played evenly throughout the game each having 20 shots on net.
Connecticut and Northeastern will battle tomorrow night at Matthews Arena in Boston, MA at 7:00 p.m.
