STORRS, CT -- The University of Connecticut field hockey team was edged by No. 4 Old Dominion, 3-0, Saturday at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex.
The Lady Monarchs, now 7-3 overall, were able to keep the ball on their own end of the field for much of the game as the Huskies, now 5-5 overall, were able to tally only one shot through two halves.
ODU scored its first goal of the game at the 26:37 mark of the first half from Tiffany Show, assisted by Melanie de Jager and Adrienne Yoder on a penalty corner. The Lady Monarchs remained silent for the rest of that half, but added two more goals in the second. The first of the two came from Adrienne Yoder, unassisted, and Tara Hermann chipped in the second one, from Melissa Leonetti.
UConn goalie Maureen Butler (Red Hook, NY), despite giving up three goals, still played a stifling defense in the goal, tallying 16 saves on the day off the Lady Monarchs 28 shots.
The Huskies look to move ahead in the BIG EAST rankings at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, when they play host to Boston College.
