Huskies Falls to McGill 5-1

Newington, CT (October 6) -- The University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey team was downed, 5-1, by McGill University in exhibition play at the Newington International Skating Center in Newington, CT on Saturday evening.
UConn struck first on a goal by freshman Matt Grew (Yarmouthport, MA) just 2:49 into the game. Sophomore Matt Owens (Framingham, MA) and senior Matt Herhal (Pottstown, PA) assisted on the goal.
McGill then went on a five goal scoring spree. Mark Debueschere and Adam Aleska each had a tally in the first period in a three-minute time span. Paul Theriault scored the lone tally in the second stanza, while David Lizotte and Joel Bergeron each scored in the third.
Sophomores Artie Imbriano (Stoneham, MA) and Jason Carey (Oakdale, MA) each allowed two goals making a combined 11 saves, while freshman goalie Paul Morrissey (Winchester, MA) stopped two shots allowing one goal. Each goalie played one period apiece for 20:00.
UConn opens its regular season schedule on Friday, October 19 against MAAC rival Iona at the UConn Ice Arena at 7:30 p.m.
