Butler Among 30 Candidates For 2001-2002

ATLANTA, GA (October 16, 2001)-- University of Connecticut sophomore forward Caron Butler is among the 30 pre-season candidates for the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Awards, it was announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Tuesday.
Butler led the Huskies in scoring as a freshman, averaging 15.3 points per game. He was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team and was a unanimous All-BIG EAST Rookie Team pick. He earned a gold medal this summer as a member of the United States National Team for the World Championship for Young Men in Japan. Butler is also a Pre-Season Top 50 candidate for the 2002 John R. Wooden All-American Team and Player of the Year award and has been named a Pre-Season All-American by Street & Smith's Magazine.
