Huskies Defeat William & Mary, 1-0, in OT

WILLIAMSBURG, VA (October 14, 2001) -– For the second time in as many games, (Fr., Auburn, WA) came away with the game-winning goal as her overtime shot lifted the 15th-ranked University of Connecticut women’s soccer team to a 1-0 decision over William & Mary Sunday afternoon at Barksdale Field in Williamsburg, VA. With the win, the Huskies improved their record to 10-4 on the season as the team remained a perfect 3-0 in overtime play, while the Tribe slipped to 6-6-1.
After neither team was able to score during regulation, Jalalian wasted no time in pressuring the ball up field after she won it away from a defender. A pass to (Sr., Davis, CA) allowed Jalalian to make a cut to the goal before McElree flicked it back off her heel and Jalalian went around one more defender before she was able to bury the ball into the lower left hand corner of an open net.
The tally was the second of Jalalian’s collegiate career as the freshman’s first goal came in UConn’s last match against West Virginia Friday night in Morgantown, WV. On the weekend, Jalalian was the only UConn player to put one in the net as her goal against the Mountaineers gave the Huskies a 1-0 shutout.
(Sr., Williamsburg, VA) got her second start of the season in the net, and now has a pair of shutouts to her credit with two of saves against William & Mary. For the Tribe, Courtney Owen made four stops on the afternoon.
UConn returns to Storrs Friday, Oct. 19, as it plays host to BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m.
