SPRINGFIELD, MA (Dec. 2, 2000)-- The University of Connecticut men's ice hockey team defeated American International College, 4-1, on Saturday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Saturday night in Springfield, MA. With the win, the Huskies record improves to 5-5-2 overall, 5-2-1 in MAAC play, while AIC drops to 4-8-1 overall, 4-5-1 in conference action.
AIC took control of the game midway through the first period on a power play goal by Guillaume Caron to give the Yellow Jackets their only lead of the game.
Connecticut then went on to score two goals in each of the remaining periods for the win. Matt Herhal (Pottstown, PA) tallied the Huskies game-tying goal 15 seconds into the second period. Michael Goldkind (Silver Springs, MD) and Ron D'Angelo (Massapequa, NY) assisted on the goal. Just over three minutes later, Mike Boylan (Doylestown, PA) gave UConn the game- winning goal on another assist from D'Angelo.
The team two played scoreless through much of the third stanza. At the 16:24 mark Eric Goclowski (Hamden, CT) netted a goal on an assist from Matt Owens (Framingham, MA). Eric Nelson (Big Lake, MN) scored UConn's last tally with 1:26 remaining in the game. Evan Schwarz (Shaker Height, OH) assisted Nelson on the goal.
UConns Jason Carey (Oakdale, MN) stopped 25 shots on net improving his season's record to 2-0. Chance Thede made 35 saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets. Connecticut outshot AIC, 39-26.
UConn will travel to Iona College on Friday, December 8 for a MAAC match-up slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Connecticuts game versus Mercyhurst postponed from Wednesday, Nov. 22 has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the UConn Ice Arena. In order to accommodate Mercyhursts travel schedule, UConns game against Sacred Heart previously scheduled for that night (Feb. 10) has been moved to Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
