UConn Tops Marathon, 100-87, In Exhibition Contest

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Albert Mouring scored 29 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field to lead the No. 13 nationally-ranked University of Connecticut men's basketball team to a 100-87 college exhibition win over Marathon Basketball in front of 9,702 at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
Mouring connected on six-of-six shots from three-point range to lead six Huskies in double figures on the night. Freshman Caron Butler scored 14 points with four assists and three steals, while junior Johnnie Selvie had 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Senior Souleymane Wane scored 12 points and senior Edmund Saunders and freshman Taliek Brown each totaled ten to round out the double figure scorers.
Marathon was led by David Harrison's game-high 31 points. Coleco Buie had 12 points, Rodney Walker scored 11 points and Curt Smith ten in the loss.
The Huskies held a 43-38 advantage at the break, turning the ball over 12 times in the first 20 minutes. Mouring had 17 of his 29 in the first half, including four-of-four from long range.

Marathon cut the UConn lead to five points early in the second half, but UConn went on a 14-4 run to open up a 15-point advantage at 61-46 with 14:54 remaining. Marathon cut the lead back to eight at 65-57, but the Huskies followed with a 16-7 burst to open an 81-64 lead and Marathon would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
UConn returns to action on Tuesday, November 14 with a 7:30 p.m. exhibition contest against the New York All-Stars at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, CT. Tickets still remain for that contest and can be purchased by calling the UConn Ticket Office at 1-877-AT-UCONN.
