Husky Swimmers Take First Ever Win Against Villanova

The Huskies and Wildcats set several school and pool records in the dual meet. UConn freshman Lindsay Hansen (Clearwater, Fla.) broke her own school record time in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10 minutes, 11.75 seconds. Sophomore Kate Larson
(Sayville, N.Y.) eclipsed her own pool records in both the 100 (1:05.35) and 200 (2:20.27) breaststroke events.
Junior Jeff Hammeken (Horseshoe Bay, Texas) was a triple winner with first place finishes in the 100 backstroke (52.41), 200 backstroke (1:55.17) and 200 Individual Medley (1:58.83). Senior Barry Hoey (Valrico, Fla.), junior Ofri Brener (Haifa, Israel) and sophomore Marshal Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y.) picked up double event wins for the Huskies.
The women improve to 6-0 on the season, while the men go to 4-1. The Huskies claimed 13 of the 16 events on the men's side with a final score of 197-91, while the women took eight of 16 events with a 169-131 win.
For most of the meet, event races came down to the final stretch. The men finished one, two, and three in the 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle. The women would do the same in the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke, to rack up points that sealed the first team victory over conference rival Villanova.
"We came out fired up and there was so much emotion coming into this meet," UConn coach Bob Goldberg said. "It was just a great team effort and we have to keep it going, so we can prove it (the win) is not a fluke."
The Connecticut men and women next travel to Piscataway, New Jersey, to take on BIG EAST opponent Rutgers on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.
