No. 3 UConn Advances to Second Round of College Cup

STORRS, CT (Nov. 19)-- The University of Connecticut mens soccer team scored
the winning goal just over a minute into the game and cruised by
Dartmouth by a score of 3-0 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs on Sunday
afternoon. The win, played before a crowd of 2,423, advances the
Huskies to the second round of the 2000 NCAA Mens College Cup.
Connecticut will face No. 2 seed Clemson at a date and time to be
determined.
Sophomore Rui Fernandes (Bridgeport, CT) got the Huskies on the board at 1:30 when he snuck a shot past Dartmouth keeper Ben Gebre-Medhin after a scramble in the box. The Huskies struck next at the 24:12 mark when freshman Lindon Pecorelli (LaCrescenta, CA) scored from 18 yards out after receiving a pass from freshman Cesar Cuellar (Santa Cruz, Bolivia). The final Connecticut goal came two minutes into the second half when senior Edwin Rivera (Houston, TX) took a serve from senior Darin Lewis (Tunapuna, Trinidad) and Cuellar on the left side of the box.
Junior Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) made five stops to record his 12th shutout of the season.
