Women's Soccer to Face Defending Champion North Carolina

STORRS, CT (Nov. 18) -- The University of
Connecticut womens soccer team will
face the No. 5 seed and defending
National Champions the University of
North Carolina in a quarterfinal match-up
in the 2000 NCAA Womens College Cup
Tournament on Friday, November 24 at
2:00 p.m. in Chapel Hill, NC. Connecticut
upset the No. 2 seed Nebraska, 1-0, on
Friday night in Lincoln, NE, while UNC
edged past Virginia, 2-1, on Saturday
evening in Chapel Hill.
UConn, 17-6-2 overall, was one of the 16 Division I teams to earn a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament field, and then went on to defeat Wisconsin, 1-0, in second round play on November 12. UConns head coach Len Tsantiris and UNCs head coach Anson Doranace are the only two coaches in NCAA history to lead their teams all 19 NCAA Tournaments, since it began in 1979. This is the eighth consecutive year the Huskies have advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament and the 15th time overall.
