The University of Connecticut field hockey team has clinched the BIG EAST regular season crown for the fifth consecutive year in a row.
The conference title gives the Huskies (12-5 overall, 4-0 BIG EAST) the top-seed in the BIG EAST Championship Tournament to be held on Nov. 3 & 5 at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex in Storrs. The remaining conference matches around the league will determine the rest of the tournament field and seeding.
Last week, UConn held at least a share of the conference crown, with then 15th-ranked Syracuse. However, BIG EAST rival Providence would upset the Orangewomen on Oct. 20, to eliminate any possibility of a tie.
In the latest STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll released on Oct. 24, the Huskies remain in the nations top ten ranked No. 10. UConn coach Nancy Stevens, also ranks second all-time with 339 coaching wins in 22 seasons.
Connecticut next travels to No. 17 Boston University in Boston for its second consecutive night match on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. They also finish out the regular season this weekend against No. 18 Syracuse on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon and No. 6 Princeton on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
