Storrs, CT (Oct. 22) - The University of Connecticut men's soccer team scored both its goals in a three and a half minute first half span en route to a 2-0 BIG EAST conference victory over West Virginia at Morrone Stadium in Storrs on Oct. 22. The contest, played before 2,811, was Senior Day for nine Huskies who were honored in a pregame ceremony. With the victory, Connecticut improves to 11-2-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the conference. West Virginia drops to 4-12-1 and 1-8-1 in the BIG EAST.
Senior Roberto Vargas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) scored UConn's first goal at the 17:06 mark on a free kick. Connecticut scored again just over three minutes later, as senior Darin Lewis blasted a shot past West Virginia keeper Chris McKinney. Senior Max Zieky (Glastonbury, CT) and freshman Cesar Cuellar (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) assisted on the goal.
Junior Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, DE) earned the shutout for the Huskies, making two saves. It was Hancock's ninth shutout of the season.
The Huskies return to action on Oct. 25 when they host BIG EAST rival Villanova at Morrone Stadium in Storrs in a game scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
