STORRS, Conn. (Oct. 18) - Northeastern's Fior DAlize Arrindell scored a game- winning goal less than three minutes into overtime to upset the eighth-ranked University of Connecticut field hockey team, 2-1, in a night game at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on Oct. 18 in Storrs.
UConn junior Megan Ware (Latham, N.Y.) opened the game up with a score at the 4:34 mark off a line feed from senior Laura Klein (Fairfield, N.J.), marking her second goal of the year.
Arrindell, a sophomore for NU, would score two minutes thereafter on an assist from teammate Sara Webber to even things out at 1-1 before the half.
In the second, Connecticut lost the services of the All-American Klein after she was bumped in the cheek with a stick. She would later return to the lineup for the remaining minutes in the second and overtime period.
Both UConn (12-5) and Northeastern (9-8) battled for 72 minutes of play on the field, amid heavy rain showers. The Huskies from Boston were previously ranked No. 20 nationally in the STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
Junior goalkeeper Alana Linick (Chelsea, Mass.) had 10 saves on the night, while Kathleen Madaus of Northeastern blocked seven.
Connecticut has the remainder of the week off, before it returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 25, versus No. 17 Boston University in Boston at 7 p.m.
