Janelle Francisco is the primary athletic trainer for women’s basketball and men's golf at UConn. She oversees the day-to-day care of the women’s basketball student-athletes as well as assisting in the medical care of student-athletes in all sports. Francisco is also responsible for CPR, AED and first aid training of the Sports Medicine department and coordinating CPR, AED and first aid training for the Athletics staff.
Francisco began working at UConn in 2008 and has worked with the baseball, football, women’s ice hockey and men & women’s tennis programs. Francisco came from Wagner College, in Staten Island, NY, where she was the head athletic trainer for football and women’s basketball from 2005-08. From 2003-05, she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer for women’s basketball at Central Connecticut. Francisco was also an intern athletic trainer at Villanova University for women’s volleyball and softball from 2002-03.
She received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology/athletic training from UConn in 2002 and her master’s degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University in 2005.
Francisco has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) since 1999. She became a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer in 2002.
Francisco held the position of Secretary for the Connecticut Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA), from 2010-2016. In 2017, she received the CATA Athletic Trainer of the Year award. Francisco also won the Ralph C. Mansell Outstanding Approved Clinical Instructor award in 2019 from the UConn Department of Kinesiology.
