Jessica Jacobson wrapped up her second season as an assistant coach. She joined the UConn coaching staff in July 2019.
Jacobson aided UConn to a 22-20 record and 12-9 mark in BIG EAST play. During the 2021 campaign, she coached Payton Kinney to two BIG EAST Pitcher and one BIG EAST Freshman of the Week awards, as well as a selection to the 2021 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Additionally, the pitching staff struck out 247 batters while posting a 3.24 ERA and a .241 average.
In her first season, she assisted the Huskies to a 16-5 record while also coaching Marybeth Olson to AAC Player of the Week honors. Under her direction, the pitching staff posted a 2.01 ERA, .208 BA, six shutouts, a no-hitter and a combined one-hitter.
Jacobson comes to UConn with more than 11 years of experience as a softball coach, with her most recent tenure at Elon University. She rejoined the Phoenix staff in 2011 as associate head coach, pitching coach. Her recruiting and coaching aided in Elon’s first two female Division I All-Americans, as well as 14 wins over Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
She was a part of the program’s first pair of Southeastern Conference victories over Georgia in 2012 and 2019. In Elon’s Division I era, Jacobson has coached several student-athletes to breaking program records in both individual season and career categories. During her time, she also coached Elon’s only pair of pitchers to throw perfect games in program history.
Jacobson has served as an assistant coach at Saint Peter’s College, University of New Haven, and Drew University.
A graduate of The College of New Jersey in 2007, she earned a dual bachelor of science in elementary education & psychology. As a student-athlete, she received the HONDA Inspiration Award in 2007, an award given to one female NCAA yearly that has overcome adversity to excel in her sport by showing strength of character and sets an outstanding example for young women. She was named Second Team All-NJAC, team captain twice, and Second Team All-East by Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association at the designated player position.
Jacobson obtained her master’s degree in management of sports industries from the University of New Haven.
