Scott Halpern enters his fifth season with the UConn men's soccer team in 2021, and second year as assistant coach. He previously served as the director of operations in 2019 and volunteer assistant coach in 2020.
Halpern will continue to serve as a key part of the staff, taking on major responsibilities in recruiting, on field coaching, and budget management. In addition, Halpern will continue to play instrumental roles in opponent scouting, video analysis, academic monitoring, community outreach, and program fundraising as he has throughout his time.
In his previous role as director of soccer administration, Halpern's responsibilities included team travel coordination, opponent scouting, video analysis, community outreach, fundraising events and group ticket sales. He also works with the captains and leadership group in team dynamics and development.
Halpern spent the previous two seasons serving as the director of soccer quality control helping the team with ticket sales, match promotions and fan engagement. Across those two seasons, UConn sat atop of the NCAA Division I Soccer attendance rankings - The Huskies recorded an average attendance of 3,502 during the 2017 season and then followed that up with an average attendance of 3,213 and total attendance of 38,555 fans in 2018. The Huskies also finished second in total attendance in 2016, drawing 38,225 total attendees.
Halpern joined the UConn staff after graduating from Ithaca College where he played four seasons at center midfield, including three where he served as team captain. Halpern graduated from Ithaca College in 2017 with BA in sport psychology and earned his MA in cognitive educational psychology in May 2019. Additionally, he holds a USSF National C Coaching License and serves as head coach to multiple teams at Northeast United Soccer Club.
