OXFORD, OH – The Miami (OH) RedHawks got the game-winning field goal with 1:58 left in the fourth quarter to deal the visiting UConn Huskies a 24-21 loss in front of 18,180 at Fred C. Yager Stadium Saturday afternoon.

UConn quarterback Kalieb Osborne threw for 215 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 84 yards and ran for one in the loss. The Huskies finished with 377 total yards.

The Huskies took opening kick-off and went 75 yards in eight plays capped by an Osborne to Javon Brown seven-yard touchdown pass for the early 7-0 lead.

UConn defense forced a three-and-out and the Huskies offense kept the fast start going. Facing a fourth-and-one on the Miami 38-yard line, Osborne faked off a hand-off and broke off the right side untouched all the way for his fifth touchdown of the season and a 14-0 lead at 6:23 of the first quarter.

The RedHawks cracked the scoreboard at 5:56 in the second quarter as quarterback David McComb engineered a 90-yard drive in eight plays, capping it off with a 10-yard scamper off the left side for six to pull within 14-7.

McComb and the RedHawks knotted the game up at 14-14 with 1:50 left in the first half on another long scoring drive, this one covering 87 yards. McComb lofted a pass to tight end Brendan Loftus who hauled it in one-handed and sprinted past the defense for a 58-yard score. The Huskies had a chance for points at the end of the half but a Jack O'Connor field goal attempt from 46 yards was wide-right.

Miami's opening drive of the second half stalled out on the UConn 26 but a 44-yard field goal attempt by Kellan McLaughlin bounced off the crossbar, no good. The RedHawks made it 21-straight points on their next drive however when McComb hooked-up with Scoop Smith for an 11-yard touchdown to cap a nine-play, 83-yard drive for a 21-14 lead with 3:48 left in the third.

UConn tied the game up at the end of the quarter as an Osborne 53-yard pitch-and-catch to Shamar Porter put the ball deep in Miami territory and Cyncir Bowers capped the drive with a one-yard plunge to make it 21-21 with 48 seconds left in the third.

The RedHawks had a chance to retake the lead early in the fourth but a drive stalled out to set up a second attempt by McLaughlin, this time from 40 yards but it sailed wide left, leaving the game tied at 21-21.

McComb was forced from the game on the next drive with injury, giving way to senior back-up Caleb Heavner. The RedHawks came up with a big turnover in the UConn end as CJ Young picked off Osborne and set up Miami on the UConn 44-yard line.

The RedHawks used 11 plays and 6:49 on the clock to set up the go-ahead field goal and Brady Stidham drilled a 33-yard attempt with 1:58 left to go up 24-21. The Huskies went into their two-minute offense looking to tie or take the lead but the Miami defense held and forced a turnover on downs at their own 38-yard line to seal away the win.

Miami finished with 414 yards of total offense with McComb throwing for 312 yards and two scores.
