UConn Closes Out Weekend at NCAA East First Round

LEXINGTON, KY - The UConn track and field team rounded out competition at the 2026 NCAA East Region First Round at the University of Kentucky's Outdoor Track & Field Complex on Saturday evening.
UConn had a pair of women in action on the track on Saturday in senior Sarah Trainor in the 3,000m and freshman Sascha Letica in the 5,000m. Trainor finished in 22nd place in the steeplechase, clocking in at 10:14.17. Letica placed 34th in the 5,000m with a time of 16:15.96.
On Thursday, the UConn women had freshman Brooklyn Taylor in the long jump and she finished 37th overall with a leap of 5.86m. On the track, fellow freshman Brooke Strauss finished inside the top-20 in the 48-runner field, clocking in at 4:14.76. Senior Chloe Trudel ran the 10,000m and was 30th overall with a time of 34:34.26.
UConn will be represented at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Eugene, Oregon by the pair of Josh Mooney and Maresa Hense  in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively. Mooney and Hense will be heading to the NCAA Championship meet for the second-straight season. Mooney ranked second in the nation in the decathlon and posted a career-best 8,033 points to finish third at the Mt. SAC Relays. Hense posted the best score in the heptathlon of her career at the Mt. SAC Relays as well, totally 5,816 points. Both marks set new school records for the duo.
