UConn Selected as No. 1 Seed in 2026 NCAA Tournament

STORRS, Conn. – The 2025 National Champion UConn women's basketball team will compete in the NCAA Tournament for the 37th straight season as the Huskies were selected as the No. 1 seed in Region 1 – Fort Worth of the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.
UConn will open the NCAA Tournament vs. No. 16-seed UTSA (18-15) on Saturday. The Huskies will also host No. 8-seed Iowa State (22-9) and No. 9-seed Syracuse (23-8).
This is the 23rd time UConn has earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and the first time since 2021.
The Huskies have competed in every NCAA Tournament beginning with the 1988-89 season. UConn has advanced to a record 24 Final Fours and won a record 12 National Championships.
Head coach Geno Auriemma and the Huskies are 142-24 (.855) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Auriemma is the winningest coach in postseason play.
The Huskies enter the NCAA Tournament undefeated for the 10th time in program history.
UConn (34-0, 20-0 BIG EAST) won the BIG EAST Conference's automatic bid by winning the league's conference tournament last week.
