Brooke Strauss Named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week

STORRS, Conn.— Following her impressive collegiate debut at the Ted Owen Invitational, UConn's Brooke Strauss was named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week, the conference announced in a release on Tuesday.
The freshman standout ignited the Huskies to a team victory at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday, finishing second overall with a time of 17:12.40 in the 5000m race. Strauss and the Huskies claimed a resounding team victory, with UConn taking second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth, finshing with 20 points.
A native of Glastonbury, Connecticut, Strauss shined on the national stage, being named Gatorade Women's Cross Country Player of the Year and Connecticut Outdoor Girls Track and Field Player of the Year after winning the Connecticut State Open meet last fall and breaking the state 1500m record in the spring.
Strauss and the Huskies return to action on Friday, October 3rd at the Paul Short Run.
