Cam Edwards Named a Preseason Candidate for the Doak Walker Award

STORRS, CT - UConn running back Cam Edwards (Norwalk, CT) was named a preseason candidate for the 2025 Doak Walker Award announced on Tuesday by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. The Forum annually presents the award to the nation's most outstanding college running back.
Edwards is one of 103 running backs across the country named to this year's watch list. The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. Each Tuesday of this season, The PwC SMU Athletic Forum will once again announce a Doak Walker National Running Back of the week.Â
The r-junior running back has seen his work load and production increase in each of his seasons in Storrs and is coming off a year where he lead the Huskies in rushing. Edwards carried the load for the ground game last fall, registering 146 carries fora. team-best 830 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per carry. He found the endzone eight times on the ground including scores in the final four games of the season. He also caught 13 passes out of the backfield for 148 yards and three scores.
He had a pair of 100-yard games on the year including a season-high 142 yards on 18 carries with a rushing and receiving score in the regular season finale win at UMass. At Duke, he ran 21 times for 106 yards and a score. At Syracuse, he ripped off a career-long 71-yard touchdown. Over his career, he has played in 23 games, posting 1450 yards on 270 carries with 12 touchdowns. He has 28 career catches for 280 yards and three touchdowns.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.
