Rome, Maria, and Kutlu Named to All-Tournament Team

VESTAL, N.Y.- After an undefeated weekend, three Huskies were named to the Bearcat Classic All-Tournament Team. Audrey Rome (Sandwich, Ill.) was named the Tournament MVP. Rome was joined by Grace Maria (Arlington, Va.) and Doga Kutlu (Ankara, Turkey).
Rome was dominant on both ends for the Huskies on the weekend, pouring in 31 kills (2.82/set) at a .667 hitting percentage. In the five-set victory over Binghamton, Rome had a career-high13 kills along with five total blocks. Rome notched 10 blocks on the weekend overall (0.91/set), with five coming against Lehigh on Friday night.
Maria fueled the UConn offense throughout the weekend, with 29 kills (2.64/set), 20 digs (1.82/set) and 8 aces (.73/set). Maria tied a career-high with 12 kills in the win over Binghamton, and was effective on the service line with six aces. In the sweep victory over Fordham, Maria chipped in 11 digs. The junior outside hitter also added four total blocks on the weekend for the Huskies as well.
Kutlu conducted the UConn offense with 103 total assists (9.36/set), highlighted by a 48-assist performance in the win over Binghamton. Kutlu had 27 digs (2.45/set) on the weekend, to go with 12 kills (1.09/set), four blocks (.55/set) and three aces.
The Huskies are back in action Thursday night against South Dakota at the UConn Volleyball Center.
