Three Huskies Named to Shrine Bowl 1000

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn Huskies placed three players on the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 watchlist, which consists of the best 1,000 players throughout all of college football who are currently all-star game eligible for the 2026 East-West Shrine Bowl and the 2026 NFL Draft class.
UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell (Bronx, NY) and running backs Cam Edwards (Norwalk, CT) and Mel Brown (Stone Mountain, GA) have been selected to this year's list.
Bell came to Storrs last fall after transferring in from Wisconsin. The senior wideout was one of the Huskies top weapons on offense making explosive plays all season. He led the team with 50 catches for 860 yards and 5 touchdowns. He averaged 17.2 yards per catch, ranking 37th in the country.
Edwards helped lead a UConn ground game that ran for 2590 yards on the ground, ranking 21st in the nation averaging 199.2 yards per game. Edwards has continued to improve in each of his seasons in Storrs and is coming off a break-out year. He played in all 13 games and led the Huskies in rushing with 830 yards (5.7 ypc) and eight touchdowns. Edwards also caught 13 passes out of the backfield, two for touchdowns.
Brown was equally impressive in the run game, posting 673 yards on 118 carries in 13 games. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry and found the endzone twice. He also caught a score. Brown was also a major threat in the return game. He was second in the country in kick-off returns, averaging 29.1 yards per return and had 17 returns on the season. His long was a 96-yard return for a touchdown.
The East-West Shrine Bowl is a best-in-class all-star event that will take place at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco,TX on January 27, 2026.
