Track & Field Kicks off BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in Storrs

STORRS, Conn.- UConn men's and women's track and field kicked off the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships at home in Storrs, beginning their pursuit for another dual indoor/outdoor sweep championship at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex at home in Storrs.
Multi-Events:
- In Day 1 of the multi-events, Audrey Kozak (Shelton, Conn.) secured the early lead, winning three of the first four events to lead the way with 3,112 points. Mackenzie Braunstein (Willimantic, Conn.) had the top performance in the shot put at 10.43m, maintaining second place with 2,971 points headed into Friday.
- Josh Mooney (Stonington, Conn.) leads the decathlon with 3,936 points. Max Ringwall (New Berlin, Wisc.) sits at third with 3,689 points.
Field Events:
- Natalia Surdej (Lancaster, N.Y.) claimed the first gold medal for the Huskies in the women's hammer throw, winning the event with a throw of 55.71m. Gabriela DeFelice (New Canaan, Conn.) took bronze in the event, with a personal best throw of 50.41m.
- Travis Roux (Northport, N.Y.) set a new personal best in the hammer throw, with a throw of 64.57m to claim the silver medal. The performance marks the second-best mark in program history. Alex Krause (Coventry, Conn.) secured bronze with a throw of 59.16m.
Track Events:
- Chloe Trudel (Amherst, N.H.) set a personal best in the 10,000m run with a time of 34:42.71, taking home fourth place with the fifth-fastest time in program history. Caroline Webb (Greenwich, Conn.) scored points for the Huskies with an eighth place finish at a time of 36:04.79.
Day 2 of the championships continue starting at 12:00pm on Friday.
