Sarah Strong Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

NEW YORK – UConn women's basketball sophomore forward Sarah Strong was named the first BIG EAST Player of the Week of the season, as announced by the conference Monday.
In the opening week of the season, Strong led the Huskies to wins over No. 20 Louisville and Florida State. She averaged 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.
Against the Cardinals, Strong had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while adding five assists, two blocks and two steals. Against the Seminoles, she had 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
This is the fourth time Strong has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week in her career.
Graduate student Azzi Fudd was named to the conference's weekly honor roll. Fudd averaged 21.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in UConn's two wins.
The top-ranked Huskies host Loyola Chicago in Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on truTV.
