ORONO, Maine - The UConn Huskies fell to the University of Maine Sunday evening by a final of 7-3. Sophomore Jake Percival scored two goals in the loss.
With the loss to Maine, UConn finishes the first half of the 2023-24 season with a 7-9-1 overall record and a 4-6-0 record in Hockey East action.
UConn opened the scoring in Orono late in the first period as sophomore Jake Percival was able to collect the loose puck in front of the net and tipped it past Maine's Victor Ostman to give UConn the 1-0 lead after the first period.
The second period was all Black Bears. Following two penalties to end the first period by the Huskies, UConn was forced to start the second period down two men. While on the five on three power play, Maine scored to tie the game at one. Shortly after, Maine found the back of the net again, as the puck deflected off a UConn defender and into the back of the net to give Maine the 2-1 lead. UConn found the equalizing goal while on the power play, as Nick Capone collected the puck in front of the net following a scrum and tipped it past Ostman. The Black Bears offense went back to work following the equalizing goal by UConn and scored two more goals in the period, one being a shorthanded goal to take a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
The Huskies cut the Maine lead to one early in the third period when sophomore Jake Percival scored his second of the night, but Maine's offense was too much for the Huskies to handle, as they scored three unanswered goals to come away with the 7-3 victory.
