NCAA Championship New Haven Regional Results
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – UConn sophomore Caleb Manuel battled some blustery winds on the Yale Golf Course for a 2-over par 72 Wednesday in the final round of the NCAA Golf Championship New Haven Regional to finish in a tie for 15th overall.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.), who's overall tournament total was a 2-under, 68-68-72=208, was in the thick of a battle for the one individual spot available for next week's NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., until well into the back nine Wednesday, but ultimately fell just three strokes short of VCU's Adrian Vagberg (-5, 205), who clinched the berth. Overall, there were 75 players in the New Haven event.
The top five teams which competed in New Haven – Wake Forest (-26), North Carolina (-19), Texas Tech (-16), North Florida (-16) and Georgia Southern (-6) – will advance to Scottsdale next week, as well as Vagberg.
Manuel finishes the 2021-22 college season with a team-leading per round average of 70.94, with eight Top 10 and nine Top 20 finishes, along with two individual tournament titles. He had 16 sub-70 rounds and 21 rounds of par-or-better. Manuel's two-year career average of 71.58 per round is the finest in UConn golf's modern history.
