GREENVILLE, S.C. – Led by freshman Caleb Manuel, the UConn men's golf team improved in every round of the Furman Intercollegiate Tournament, which finished Sunday at the Furman University Golf Course.
Manuel (Topsham, Me.) fired sub-par rounds in each of the last two rounds as the Huskies went from an aggregate 22-over in Round 1 to 10-over in Round 2, to 6-over in Round 3. UConn's 306-294-290=890 put the Huskies in 11th place in the 17-team field. Host school Furman won the event with a total of 853.
Manuel struggled a bit to a 6-over 77 in Round 1, but followed up with a 2-under 69 and a 1-under 70 to finish with a 3-over, 77-69-70=216, his fifth and sixth rounds of par or better out of nine tournament rounds played this season. The total placed Manuel in a tie for 14th place in the 102-player field.
