STORRS, Conn. –The University of Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Xavier by a score of 2-1 in their final home match of the season.

Xavier struck first, scoring off a cross only 5 minutes into the match. UConn would respond as Kai Griese crossed the ball into the box and found the head of Ben Awashie, however the Xavier keeper would make the save. UConn would stay on the attack as they threatened with another cross but it was punched away by the keeper.

UConn's defense would tighten up, and that would create multiple chances late in the first half for the offense, but each shot attempt missed wide. UConn's best chance of the second half came when freshman Mateo Leveque took a shot from outside the box that rang off the post. UConn would eventually grab the equalizer as Thomas Decottignies would dribble though multiple defenders and send the shot on goal that would slip right past the keeper. Both teams would go into half tied at 1.

Both teams came out strong in the second half with multiple chances to break the tie. Xavier's best chance of the second half came in the 55^th minute when a shot went just above the outreached hand of graduate student Jahmali Waite and just missed the goal. UConn's best chance of the second half came as Maxwel De-Bodene put a shot on net, but the Xavier goalkeeper would make a diving save to keep the game tied.

Xavier would break the tie in the 66^th minute to give them the 2-1 lead. UConn would continue to attack however the Xavier back line would limit UConn's scoring chances. UConn had a chance to tie the game with 10 seconds to go but a header by Dominic Laws went just high of the net. The goal in the 66^th minute would be the difference maker as UConn would fall by a score of 2-1.
