NEW HAVEN, Conn. – No. 28 UConn men's soccer was blanked by Yale, 3-0, Wednesday night at Reese Stadium.
Seniors Dayonn Harris and Jordan Hall paced the Husky offense with three shots apiece, sophomore Felix Metzler chipped in two attempts of his own, while Blaise NGague and Ibrahima Diop each fired one shot each, respectively. Sophomore goalkeeper collected three saves in the losing effort.
UConn nearly struck for the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. After a takeaway Moussa Wade dribbled the ball up the far left sideline, creating a two-on-one break with Jordan Hall running up the right-middle of the pitch. Wade dished the pill out to Hall for the shot (16:34), but the senior's attempt sailed just wide of the cage after deflecting off the Yale keeper.
Yale broke the scoreless tie at 29:27, as Ryan Matteo collected a centered pass from Sigfus Arnason and fired the shot into the back corner to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
The home team increased its lead to three goals after a Miguel Yuste penalty kick (31st) and Matteo's second goal of the night (35th), taking a 3-0 advantage into the half.
UConn ramped up the aggressiveness after halftime as the Huskies held an 8-3 shot advantage in the second half, including two shots-on-goals. UConn's best scoring chances came on straight-line drives from Harris (61:30) and freshman Jayden Reid (63:43), but their shots were turned away and saved by the Bulldog keeper.
Despite their best efforts and relentlessness in the second half, the Huskies were unable to break through on the scoreboard and left New Haven with a 3-0 defeat. The Huskies fall to 2-2 on the season while Yale picks up its first victory to move to 1-0-2.
