PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The UConn men's swimming and diving team swam fast on Thursday night by posting some of their best times of the season with numerous Huskies producing season-bests.
"Tonight was a very good night for our program," said head coach Chris Maiello. "We came out this morning good but not great, tonight the team was much more sharp and we were able to swim some really good times tonight. The highlight of the night has to be the two school records that were broken on the men's side. Emils and Will swam really well and put themselves in a position to have an outstanding second half."
UConn captured five first place finishes on the evening including a pair of relay wins in the 400 Medley and 200 Free.
The combination of Will Kearsey, Andrew Fenton, Josh Bryant and Kyle Dunlap earned a top spot time of 1:20.78 and Jack Muratori, Rowan King, Cooper Knapp and Emils Jurcik followed in second in the 200 Free.
Kearsey, King, Knapp and Dunlap closed out the night with first in the 400 Medley with a time of 3:15.63, well ahead of any other relay team.
Kearsey secured his third win of the night with a school record and NCAA B Qualifying time of 19.55 in the 50 Free. Dunlap also posted a season-best mark of 20.74 to take the runner-up spot in the event.
Emils Jurcik, Billy Regan and Cooper Knapp swept the 200 IM with all three grabbing season-best times. Jurcik crushed the field with a time of 1:46.99 to set a new school record.
Kyle Kennedy (291.15) and Torrington Wagner (283.90) shattered their season-best scores in the 3M to earn second and third place in the event.
