Bethlehem, Penn. – The UConn men's cross country team appeared in its second meet of the year, finishing 29th out of 45 participants at the 46th annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University on Saturday morning. The Huskies top finisher was R-Sophomore Will Brisman who placed 44th out of 389 runners with a time of 24:10.
"Really pleased with Will's performance today, coming in with the fastest time for us. It was a great field today, perfect day to run and we ran well as a team," said Head Coach Greg Roy.
"It was a good performance from the team today. After being off for four weeks and today being the first five mile race of the season, if we can progress from here I think we'll be alright. Considering how young the team is, I think we will develop greatly over the next four weeks as we look toward the conference championships."
R-Junior and captain Eric Van Der Els finished with a time of 24:38 while Sophomore James Maniscalco finished not far behind with a time of 25:05.
Coach Roy was also pleased with the new runners, with two finishing in the team's top five. Freshman Angel Vicioso finished with a time of 25:07 and fellow Freshman Jacob Russo finished at 25:30 to round out the Huskies top-finishers.
