UConn Falls to No. 1 Indiana, Closes Door on 2018 Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The UConn men's soccer team was blanked by No. 1 Indiana on Sunday afternoon, 4-0, at Jerry Yeagley Field – dropping its second round NCAA Tournament match and ending the 2018 season. The Huskies finish the year with an overall record of 12-6-2.
UConn was unable to get the offense flowing, as they were outshot, 22-3, in the contest against the second-seeded Hoosiers. Freshman goalkeeper Gianluca Catalano made five saves in the losing effort.
After registering 6 corner kicks through the opening 15 minutes, Indiana broke a scoreless tie at 16:07, as Andrew Gutman headed home the team's seventh corner kick (at that point) to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead.
Indiana increased its lead to two goals after Rece Buckmaster beat goalie Gianluca Catalano and netted a goal four yards out from the near right side. The Hoosiers would take the 2-0 lead into the halftime break, holding a 13-1 shot advantage.
Timmy Mehl (58th) converted on a deflected header off a corner kick and Spencer Glass (60th) tallied on a shot from the left side into the near post – extending Indiana's advantage to 4-0 and putting the game out of the Huskies' grasp.
Physicality was evident as the teams went head-to-head over the course of the match, resulting in 20 fouls.
UConn managed just three shot attempts in 90 minutes of play against the Hoosiers' pressing attack. – two of which sailed high of the goal post and the third saved by the Indiana keeper.
