STORRS, Conn. - The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly volleyball award recipients on Monday with UConn volleyball's redshirt-sophomore Kayla Williams receiving recognition as a member of the Honor Roll. The honor marks the first of 2017 for Williams.
In a 1-1 week for the Huskies (9-7, 2-2 AAC), Williams averaged a team-best 5.00 kills per set, while notching 2.71 digs per set, 0.57 blocks per set, and 0.14 assists per set.
Williams played a big part in UConn's first AAC road win of the fall, helping her team take down Tulane on Sunday, Oct. 1. The outside hitter paced the Huskies with 17 kills in the team's 3-1 victory, while posting nine digs on the defensive side. Additionally, Williams recorded three blocks in the win.
On Friday, Sept. 29, Williams collected her seventh double-double of the season, boasting a team-high 18 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 loss at Houston. The 18 kills tied a season-high for William's who matched the feat in a win against Memphis earlier this fall.
So far this season, Williams is headlining the squad in kills and service aces, notching 205 and 26, respectively. Her 149 digs are a second best on the team, while she's tallied 22 total blocks to rank third on the squad. Williams ranks first in the conference in aces per set (0.46), third in points per set (4.34) and fifth in kills per set (3.66).
UConn returns home next week, taking on conference rival Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
