Huskies Wrap Up a Successful Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The UConn women's track and field team wrapped up a successful weekend at the 2016 Florida Relays on Saturday, April 2 on the campus of the University of Florida.
"We had another good weekend which produced many personal and season-bests," said Husky head coach J.J. Clark. "There was strong competition at this meet which helped elevate our team's performance to a new level. Megan Chapman, Laura Williamson, Liz Lagoy and Deysha Smith-Jenkins all posted stand-out performances this weekend."
In total, over 270 college, club, and professional teams and another 330-plus high school teams, amounting to over 4,200 competitors, ran at this year's Pepsi Florida Relays.
On Saturday, the team's 4x100m relay squad (Smith-Jenkins, Joseph, Bowens, Anderson) crossed the finish line in 45.82 seconds, taking 27th overall. Both of the Huskies' 4x800m relay teams placed in the top five of the event on Saturday, led by a silver medal 8:46.51 second performance from the 'A' team (Over, Foley, Vodopia, Williamson). Connecticut 'B' 4x800 team (Howard, Zimmer, Scahill, Kane) placed fourth with a time of 9:04.13.
Connecticut's DMR squad (Briody, Scahill, Howard, Foley) collected a top-10 finish in the event on Saturday, finishing seventh with a result of 12:10.46 seconds.
On the field, senior Saija Bikanova nabbed sixth in the high jump (1.68m), while Kelly Myers delivered a 13.55m toss in the shot put on her way to an 11th-place finish.

The team returns to the track on Saturday, April 9 when it competes at the UTech Invitational in Kingston, Jamaica.
