Swimming and Diving Take Sixth at Virginia Tech Invite

Blacksburg, Va. - On the final day of competition in the Virginia Tech Invite, the UConn men's swimming and diving team finished the event in 6th place with 230 points. The 8-team field was topped by the host school, Virginia Tech who scored 1,287 points over the three-day competition.
The Huskies placed a couple swimmers in the A-Final on Saturday with Will Kearsey (Wheathampstead, England) reaching in the 200-yard backstroke and Mark Hunter getting there in the 200-yard breaststroke. Kearsey grabbed a sixth place finish, swimming in 1:48.40 in the backstroke. Hunter also secured a sixth place finish, touching up at 2:01.41.
Alan Li also swam well in the 200-yard breast, logging 19th place in the C-Final with a time of 2:05.29.
Co-captain James Donlevy swam well during the three-day event, continuing into Saturday's action. Donlevy qualified for the B-Final and ended the competition grabbing ninth place (45.67) in the 100-yard freestyle.
Donlevy was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that took fifth place. He was joined by Daniel Krentsa, Kearsey and Kyle Kimura as the team finished in 3:03.75.
Another notable from Saturday was Christopher Girg (Burbach, Germany) racing to a 21st place overall finish in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.72).
We had a solid team meet this weekend, said head coach Bob Goldberg. "Coaches Barletta and Franz did a great job preparing the team. James Donlevy was great as was Will Kearsey. Alan Li also had a breakout meet. We will now get ready for a very tough Yale and B.U. meet next week.
The squad will now take a week off from competition and prepare for a Saturday, Dec. 3rd meet with Yale and Boston University at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium in Storrs, Conn.
