UConn Head Coach Geno Auriemma
On Kaleena's last regular season game:
"You can tell she wanted to get it over with. Despite any discussion she has had, she didn't waste a lot of time from the beginning. There's a fine line between wanting to win, be a great teammate, doing all the things my team wants me to do, and this is kind of important to me, so let me get it over with and move onto the business of winning the game. I'm glad she played well, I'm glad she got a lot done today, and that's what you want for players on senior day."
On the dynamic between Kaleena and Kia Nurse:
"They are polar opposites, no question about it. It's hard to fathom doesn't want to be an offensive basketball player, it's what most kids want. Today, the first things kids do when they first receive a basketball is dribble it, then launch threes, and then try and dunk it. So to play that many games and not shoot the ball is unusual."
Senior Center Kiah Stokes
On her assist to Kaleena for the first offensive points of the game:
"Coach just told me to go out there and play like I know how to play, and I know how to get rebounds and block shots so that's what I tried to do. For Kaleena to get her 2000th point off an assist from me was awesome… I'm glad that I did my part and she made her shot."
On getting her 300th block:
I did know that I needed one to get 300. I wasn't focused on that during the game, I just wanted to make sure they didn't score. If I block a shot, I'm doing my job.
On achieving this level of play coming off the bench:
I'm definitely proud of it… I think coming off the bench and doing it is great. It just proves to everyone you don't have to start to be a great player at Connecticut, and I think that's one thing I'm going to take away from it… I can still contribute and that's the thing that means the most.
Senior Forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis
On whether or not getting her 2000th point was on her mind:
"A little bit. Coach Auriemma told me last game that I only needed four points to get it on senior night, so I wanted to make sure that I got that today."
On if the game today was emotional:
"I think you do have to maintain a certain level of focus because of all the excitement going on, and all the things you know are going to happen before the game. Our coaches do a good job of making sure that we're focused and our heads are in the game."
