Women's Track and Field Announces 2016 Signing Class

STORRS, Conn. - On Tuesday, University of Connecticut women's track and field head coach J.J. Clark and his staff announced the signing of two standout student-athletes for the 2016-17 campaign. The Huskies will welcome Danielle Jordan and Chanell Botsis to the Storrs campus in the fall of 2016.
"I'm very excited to welcome the 2016 signing class to the Husky family," said Clark. "I am looking forward to what each of these young women can bring to our team as we continue to grow as a program."
Chanell Botsis | Coquitlam, British Columbia | Dr. Charles Best High School
Botsis will begin her Husky career after boasting a wealth of experience at the high school and international level. Competing at Dr. Charles Best High School in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Bostsis was named team MVP for Track and Field and took home the top spot in both the Discus and Hammer throw championships during her senior season.
She competed for Team Canada at the World Youth competition in Cali, Columbia and also participated at the Junior National Track and Field Championships and Western Canada Summer games. From 2009-15, she was tabbed as the top female athlete by her Track and Field club and is a two-time Top Female High School Athlete of the Year as award by the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame. Additionally, she ranks No. 1 in the nation in the youth division 4kg hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 54.86m.
Off the field, she has excelled in the classroom, holding a perfect 4.0 grade point average and receiving honors with distinction. She plans to study engineering at UConn.
Danielle Jordan | Clifton Park, N.Y. | Shenedehowa High School
Jordan comes to Storrs after a standout career at Shenedehowa High School in Clifton Park, N.Y. where she was selected as the 2014 Times Union Cross Country All-Star Runner of the Year. Her cross country career is highlighted by a pair of Suburban council All-Star appearances in 2013 and 2014 and an appearance at NXN Nationals a season ago.
On the track, she was the indoor 2015 sectional 3,000m race champion and took tome the distance runner of the year award in each of the last two seasons. During the outdoor campaign, she was a three-time Suburban Council all-star (2013-15) and the Suburban 1,500m champion in 2015. Additionally, she competed at the Penn Relays in 2014 and also participated at 2014 Nationals in the 4x800m relay and 4xmile relay.
In the classroom, she is an eight-time NY State Scholar Athlete Award winner and also was the recipient of the "Green Letter Award" for outstanding academic performance.
