TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Michael McGonnigle delivered a 13th-place overall finish to help lead the University of Connecticut men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at Mohawk Sports Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Michael McGonnigle delivered a 13th-place overall finish to help lead the University of Connecticut men's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at Mohawk Sports Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
McGonnigle was the first Husky to finish the 8K race, crossing the line in 25:45. He was followed up by Alvaro Chavez (26:11) and Ned Wilson (26:19), who claimed 22ndand 25th, respectively.
Also posting top-35 results was freshman standout Parker Timmerman (26:26) and Wyatt Million (26:27). As a team, the Huskies tallied 125 total points. Host-school Tulsa won the conference crown, finishing with five of the top 10 individual finishers, while Cincinnati (84) and Houston (96) rounded out the top-three.
McGonnigle continued his strong stretch, improving on his top-20 results from the Rothenburg Run on Oct. 17 in Warwick, R.I. The freshman was placed on the men's All-Conference team following the race.
"Mike McGonnigle was great, garnering All-Conference honors as a freshman," said head coach Greg Roy. " We arent satisfied with today, but we are happy with the improvement. We've just got to keep getting better."

The Huskies matched their performance in last season's inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship, claiming fourth in 2013.
