Flowers Takes Bronze In Hammer At BIG EAST Championships

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team ended day one of the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with one Husky on the podium as senior Victoria Flowers claimed third place in the hammer. Following day one, the Huskies sit in fifth place with six ponits.
Three-time All-American Victoria Flowers captured third place in the hammer throw to take home the bronze following a toss of 56.96m (186-10'). The Providence, R.I. native still holds the best mark in the conference in the hammer after her 63.24m hurl earlier in the season. Flowers will compete in the shot put on Saturday.
In the 10,000m run sophomore Allison Lasnicki (Canastota, N.Y.) completed the race in 36:25.97 which automatically qualifies her for the ECAC Championships next weekend.
Looking to defend her 2011 title, senior Meghan Cunningham (Simsbury, Conn.) concluded the 3,000m steeplechase in an ECAC automatic qualifying time of 10:43.08.
The Huskies continue the BIG EAST Championship on Saturday, May 5 with the field events beginning at 12:30 p.m. and the track events starting at 4:30 p.m.
