Carlos Alvarez and Andre Blake Named NSCAA All-Americans

STORRS, Conn. - It was announced at the College Cup in Hoover, Ala. this weekend that UConn men's soccer stars Carlos Alvarez and Andre Blake have been named 2011 NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Americans. Alvarez was named a Second-Team All-American while Blake earned a spot on the All-America Third Team.
Both players were previously named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region First Team.
Alvarez, the 2009 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and a 2010 All-BIG EAST First Team selection, earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors as a junior and finished the season with 20 points on a career-high six goals to go with eight assists. Alvarez was sensational in the postseason, notching 10 points on three goals and four assists in seven games. The junior midfielder will enter his senior season ranked seventh all-time at Connecticut with 33 career assists.
Blake finished the season with 15 shutouts, including a program record nine straight from September 9 - October 8. Blake and the UConn defense recorded a shutout streak of 961:32. Blake was previously named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team. He finished the season ranked second in the NCAA with a .888 save percentage and a 0.39 goals against average. Blake was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection and the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year as a freshman.
The Huskies finished the season with a 19-3-3 record, falling to Charlotte in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Morrone Stadium in penalty kicks. UConn will lose only three players to graduation (Nickardo Blake, Lionel Brown and Tony Cascio) and return nine starters from the 2011 team.
