Monmouth Coach
Opening Statement
"Congratulations to UConn. They are as good of a college soccer team that you will see in the country. Congrats to them, I tip my hat, they did a great job. I thought at times we went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the country. For a small school from a small conference I was very proud of that. We had two mistakes in the game that they punished us on. I think when you are away on the road at a place like UConn you can't expect to make mistakes and not get punished."
If he thought UConn took them lightly
"I know Ray and his staff well and they prepare for everybody, whether it's us or any other team in the country. UConn does not take anybody lightly, they are smarter than that."
UConn Coach - Ray Reid
Opening statement
"I give our guys credit, we were resilient. I think we were a little asleep. They got the goal, but it woke us up. Coming off last Sunday's result, we knew if we could get this game under our belt, we could get some momentum going. Defensively we're pretty good. I don't care what the records are or who played who. One bounce of the ball and all the emotion changes. Carlos had a great match, Mama had two great goals, and Stephane Diop was fantastic for us."
On Monmouth's play and next game
"We knew that's what they were going to bring to the table. We are going to see it next week against JMU or Wake. They are going to try to disrupt us but it is going to be how we handle it that matters."
Carlos Alvarez
On the victory in the tournament
"Since freshman year, I've never won in the first round. It feels great and at the end of the day we have to move on and get ready for next Sunday. It was a good win but at the end of the day I haven't won or accomplished anything."
On two balls he played before scores
"I know him (Diouf) very well. He wants the ball and we worked on it during practice and he put it away. He puts it away, he can finish."
On first score
"I know Carlos, and I know how he bends the ball. So I was ready to go and it was down but every ball comes. I talked to Tony and told him to hold this guy because he was following me. I give them credit and great work to Carlos too."
On sense of keeper during penalty kick
"I am not going to say a lot about the penalty because we are going and it's not over. It's the beginning of the tournament. At the end, give me that question, I'll answer, but not now because I want to score more PKs in the games."
