The UConn men's soccer program has been a dominant force in the national college landscape dating back to 1948 when the Huskies won their first National Championship. The tradition of excellence continued to the 1981 NCAA title and has carried into the 21st century with UConn winning the 2000 National Championship.
One of the most popular programs in the nation, UConn has led the NCAA in overall attendance in six of the last 12 seasons. The famed student support group, The Goal Patrol, has become the standard for fan enthusiasm and support in college soccer. The program has been in the top-five in average attendance in 11 of the last 12 seasons. In 2011, UConn leads the BIG EAST with an incredible 3,450 fans per game.
The Huskies have been a force in the BIG EAST Conference since its inception in 1982 and have dominated the league since the hiring of Ray Reid in 1997. Connecticut has won seven BIG EAST Tournament titles and 11 regular season crowns.
A tradition of excellence that spans decades, UConn boasts four National Players of the Year, 32 BIG EAST Players of the Year, 38 First Team All-BIG EAST Selections, 41 All-Americans and six first round MLS draft picks including the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 draft, Chris Gbandi.
The Huskies open the BIG EAST Tournament against DePaul this week. The time and date are still to be determined.
