STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's soccer team earned the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Blue Division and will host DePaul in the BIG EAST First Round at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Thursday, November 3. The time for that contest is still to be determined due to power outages on the Storrs campus.
Students with a valid UConn ID will have free admission to Thursday's contest. Just show the ID at the gates and admission is free for all students of BIG EAST institutions.
DePaul (6-10-2, 3-5-1 BIG EAST) earned the sixth and final spot from the BIG EAST Red Division. DePaul qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament on the final day of the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Syracuse at home.
Connecticut (14-2-2, 5-2-2 BIG EAST) dropped to the third seed in the Blue Division with a 1-0 loss at Seton Hall on Sunday evening.
Thursday's contest will be a rematch of last season's BIG EAST First Round in which UConn hosted the Blue Demons and came away with a 2-0 victory.
The Huskies are currently ranked No. 5 by the NSCAA and No. 2 in last week's Soccer America poll.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to face Rutgers, the No. 2 seed from the Red Division. The time and date of that game are to be determined. Rutgers earned the No. 2 seed and a bye with a 6-1-2 record in the BIG EAST Red Division and a 9-5-3 mark overall.
The semifinals and finals of the BIG EAST Tournament will be played at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. on November 11 and 13.
