Huskies Trounce Army in AHA Opener, 5-0.

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey team traveled to West Point, N.Y. and dominated Army in the Atlantic Hockey opener, 5-0. Cole Schneider netted two goals. Garrett Bartus tallied 47 saves on the night and earned his first career shutout. UConn improved to 1-1-1 (1-0-0 AHA) while Army dropped to 0-2-0 (0-1-0 AHA).
The Huskies have been finding the back of the net with ease in the early part of the season, netting nine goals in the past two games. Sophomores Cole Schneider and Brant Harris each finished with three points. Junior Garrett Bartus has been sensational as well, stopping 41 shots per game. Bartus was sensational throughout the contest tonight and made 16 saves in a scoreless opening period.
Sophomore Brant Harris, UConn's leading scorer after three games, opened the scoring 21 seconds into the second period. He was assisted by Schneider and junior Sean Ambrosie.
Schneider made it 2-0 with his first goal of the season at 3:51 with assists going to Tom Janosz and Harris. Freshman Cody Sharib notched his first collegiate goal to put the finishing touches on a dominating middle period for Connecticut. Sharib scored at 8:33 with helpers going to Corey Jendras and Miles Winter to go up 3-0 after 40 minutes.
Bartus stopped 17 shots in the second period and tallied 33 after two periods of action.
The Huskies put Army away with two more tallies in the third period. Schneider notched his second of the game with an assist to Harris at 4:10. Sophomore Jordan Sims closed out the scoring at 18:32 with a power-play strike after passes from classmates Billy Latta and Rui Encarnacao.
The Huskies, picked fifth in the AHA Preseason Poll, won their conference opener for the second straight season. UConn will continue its five-game road trip at UMass Lowell on Tuesday, October 18. That game will be played at Conway Arena in Nashua, N.H. beginning at 7 p.m.
